Bringing a vehicle to Colombia

Bringing your car to Colombia is possible, not hard. You must meet some criteria to do it. Here we explain a bit about it.

There are a couple of ways you can do it.

  1. Brand new
  2. Classic.

No, you can not bring your regular car, unless it is over 35 years old and meets classic car criteria, and it’s approved by them.

Bringing a vehicle

If the car is a classic (we love classics), it will be even easier to bring a vehicle to Colombia.

  • The car must be 35 years old or older
  • Be in running conditions (it does not have to be showroom condition – we understand you may want to restore it here since it’s cheaper)
  • The tires must be spanking new (I have no clue why, but I think it has to do with rubber waste)

If you must bring your brand new car…I do recommend you do your homework and find out about importing companies, but make sure you have all the paperwork in line and checked in Colombia by a forwarding company so you won’t have any problems

Taxes on importing a vehicle

Bringing a vehicle to Colombia has rules regarding taxes. It depends on the type of car and tax bracket; do can expect to pay up to 35% or more, but do remember that if you buy new, you won’t pay taxes in the country of origin. But if the case is that you want to bring your car, either way, let me know. I have a friend who has a friend who knows this guy. 🤥 I am just kidding, but I do know someone who does bring cars from the USA on a regular basis, we can ask him. I do know he charges like 2k for the errant. It’s not cheap, not gringo pricing, it’s the same for anyone here with money.
