Medellín is a city with a very violent past, which is something we cannot deny, but the change has been so significant in the last 20 years that it is now one of the best cities to retire in America. It is that simple. Medellín is as safe as you want to let it be.
Safety in Medellin
Medellín is a city that had a fascinating past. We cannot deny that, and since my situation is a tris different, I can tell you many things about the history of this city; yes, we will not deny it.
Medellin was a city that was in the worst places worldwide in terms of security, this beautiful city had a challenging time in the ’80s, and 90’s because of the unmentionable (Pablo Escobar).
But now Medellin is something else. It is already proud to say that one is from here, something that previously did not happen, saying Medellin was immediately related to drug issues. What a shame.
Safety in Medellin is like that of any other city in the world. It is neither more nor less at this time. But, of course, things are still different from what happened a few years ago, if there is a very big but if you are looking for problems.
Medellin is now a safe place to live.
You can easily find places where you shouldn’t go, you shouldn’t go, and your life will be much better, look for good friends, don’t get along badly and you won’t have any problems in Medellin, as they say colloquially.
Do not give papaya. That simple.
Now if we are going to talk about dangerous neighborhoods, Medellin, like all cities in the world, has its complicated hoods in which I would not recommend a person who was not from that area to walk those streets.
Safety in Medellin is straightforward, something I do not recommend to anyone and even less to local people. Do not hang with the wrong people, don’t take strangers to your place, or go out drinking alone.
So it is imperative to differentiate between these neighborhoods because there may be neighborhoods that seem harmless but are full of danger.
With that said, I want to clarify.
Medellín is not a dangerous city. Colombia, in general, is not difficult. Times of constant attacks by the guerrillas are a thing of the past, with remote episodes in areas far from urban areas.
