Here is the deal with gringo pricing. Unfortunately, some people here like to take advantage of the fact that you have dollars in your pocket. That sucks, but it does happen.
Now, not everything is gringo pricing. I do have to make that clear. There are zones where all prices are high or higher because the services are provided in hush-hush areas and are premium. How can you identify gringo pricing? Beer for ten mil pesos. Depending on the bar, you could be paying that price. I would not know about that part of retiring here; sorry, sorry 😝
It’s effortless to get gringo priced in tourist zones, and, now that I come to think about it is very easy to get gringo prices even if you are a local in these tourist zones, and there are most than probably people that are experts at identifying people to gringo price.
One of the easiest ways to get gringo priced is in a taxi. Sorry but taxi drives are the worst at gringo pricing, someone. So, be very careful when you take a cab. We recommend downloading a taxi app or having a person you trust recommend someone; if you must take a taxi, Uber away.

At the beach in Cartagena or Santa Marta is super easy to get gringo priced. It’s even funnier because if stuff like this happens to you, pleaseeeeee record it and post it. Trust me. It’s the best way to fight that kind of abuse.
If you ever get gringo priced, the best thing to do is to report it, report it online, on TripAdvisor, and so on. It has to be known. People that gringo price foreigners are scum.
