bringing your car to Colombia is possible, not hard. you must meet some criteria to do it. here we explain a bit about it.
There are a couple of ways you can do it.
- Brand new
No, you can not bring your regular car, unless it is over 35 years old and meets classic car criteria, and it’s approved by them.
If the car is a classic, (we love classics) it will be even easier to bring a vehicle to Colombia.
- the car must be 35 years or older
- be in running conditions (it does not have to be showroom condition – we understand you may want to restore it here since its cheaper)
- The tires must be spanking new (i have no clue why, but I think i has to do with rubber waste)
If you must bring your brand new car…I do recommend you do your homework and find out with importing companies but make sure you have all the paperwork in line and checked in Colombia by a forwarding company so you won’t have any problems
Taxes to import a vehicle
Bringing a vehicle to Colombia has rules regarding taxes. It depends on the type of car and tax bracket, do expect to pay up to 35% or more, but do remember that if you buy new, you won’t pay taxes in the country of origin. But if the case is that you want to bring your car, either way, let me know. i have a friend that has a friend that knows this guy. 🤥 I am just kidding, but I do know someone that does bring cars from the USA on a regular basis, we can ask him, I do know he charges like 2k for the errant. It’s not cheap, not gringo pricing, it’s the same for anyone here with money.
So, there you have it, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
